California Racer Finally Breaks Through With Midwestern Dirt Late Model Win

Longtime west coast racer Jason Papich finally captured his first ever Lucas Oil MLRA Series feature win during the 13th Annual Slocum 50 at 34 Raceway in Burlington, IA. After numerous tries and miles traveled from his Arroyo Grande, California home he would collect his largest win to date with the $10,555 winners check.

Papich would start his Longhorn Chassis from the third spot next to four time winner Bobby Pierce who took control at the drop of the green flag with Jason settling into second. After a number of cautions Pierce began to lose the handling of his car while Papich’s car was rotating well around the low line allowing him to catch the leader. He finally took the lead on lap 32 and held off a closing Tony Jackson Jr in the final laps to claim the checkers.

Jason was all smiles in victory lane as he commented, “there was a heck of a lot of good racers here, I’m just speechless. A great group of fans, amazing drivers back there behind me and one of the best in the country, Bobby Pierce and somehow I got around him and took it to the end”.

Fellow Allstar drivers Billy Moyer Sr finished fourth, the previous night’s feature winner Brian Shirley in seventh and Pierce ending the night in eighth place.
